My Story

Poppy is a very unique girl whose pictures don't do her justice: she looks so serious, but she is actually a very fun dog. We believe that she is a Boston Terrier/Beagle mix with an estimated DOB of 4/2016. At about 40 pounds she is a perfect size. Unfortunately, after a few years in a home, she had to come back to the shelter due to no fault of her own. She is not fond of other dogs, so a home where she is the only pet is required. She's currently in a foster home and her foster mom shared: We call her Polite Poppy in the house and Warrior Woman outside ? In the house: -She is quiet, housebroken, loves to nap, plays occasionally (very gently) -Keeps her kennel clean when we leave her at home -we let her "free roam" at night, but she just stays in her bed and sleeps all night -she rises with the sun ready to start her day -She never begs for food, but she will sit there quietly with the most irresistible puppy eyes hoping for a dropped crumb -She had been delighted to meet anyone who comes to the house, but hold on to her, she'll run if the door presents the opportunity! Outside: - her youthful spirit emerges and she becomes a huntress! She loves to explore every hole she can find and sniff the trails of every creature -I imagine she would do a lot of digging if left in a yard for long unsupervised periods of time, because she tries to dig when we approach the groundhog tunnels -We are working on her ability to walk in a public place. We took her to English Landing and she was definitely Warrior Princess, not Polite Poppy. We were not thrilled to have other dogs walking around and some bikes and runners looked like they wanted to be chased. Hopefully with some practice we can get her a little more presentable in public And of course after her outdoor adventures she is more than happy to take a long nap so she's ready to go again!
