My Story

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to [email protected].

Can't adopt but want to help? Please contact [email protected] to find out about sponsorship, fostering, and other ways you can help this animal! Please note that financial sponsorship will be applied to the specific animal you indicate unless it is not needed, at which time we will let you designate it for another HT animal in need.

You can save animals like the Penny & Desmond by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters, so that they have more time to find a permanent family. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering animals.

Penny & Desmond were in sorry shape and needed help. They were found living outside in South Carolina with 8 other adult Boxers who were tied up outside. These little guys were full of worms, skinny as can be and likely not to have lived much longer in those conditions. They were rescued by an amazing collaboration of animal lovers in South Carolina, reps with Dogs Deserve Better, volunteers int he DC area and finally, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. Penny is the only girl of the pack...she is the black/tan pup pictured. She is so pretty with her brown coat and black muzzle. Desmond is the tri-colored boy who could not be any cuter. Look closely to see that his little tongue sticks out when he sits for pictures.

The adoption fee for the pups is $350 each, which helps with the cost of routine vet care.
