This gorgeous, massive hunk of a dog is Paulie, a two year old Cane Corso. He was found as a stray, and brought to a local shelter. The shelter staff couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw him walk in the door – he was obviously someone’s pampered and trained pet, and although he was very frightened he did not show an ounce of aggression. The shelter manager referred to him as a “kitten in a horse’s body”.
Paulie is doing great in his foster home. He is timid around strangers, but he adores his foster family’s eleven year old son, and he is great with their other dogs. He is deathly afraid of cats, and we would prefer a home for him where no felines will terrorize him. Paulie needs a family with older kids or just adults (due to his size, not his temperament). He is NOT a guard dog and he needs a loving home that will make him part of the family. He is very affectionate and loves to petted and scratched on the butt. Paulie is a “leaner” and he also believes he is a lap dog, although at 100 pounds he will need to find someone with a very big lap. It was very difficult for his foster mom to take pictures of him because every time she sat on the floor he tried to sit on her. His look is intimidating, but he is nonetheless one of the nicest and sweetest dogs his foster family has ever met.
Cane Corso’s are very intelligent and trainable, and protective yet gentle. They originated in Italy, where they were bred as working dogs, not fighting dogs, and they are sometimes referred to as “Italian Mastiffs”. Paulie needs a home with experienced dog owners, who will reinforce his training and exercise him daily. In return, he will give you his utmost loyalty and big sloppy dog kisses every day.
Paulie is neutered, completely housetrained, and up to date on all his shots. He knows how to "sit" and "shake", and he walks nicely on a leash. He is perfectly behaved when left free in the house while his foster family is at work. Do you have room in your home and your heart for this big guy? If so, please send in an application today.
