Patrick-ADOPTED!!

Patrick is a very sweet male black lab mix about 1.5 years of age who was confiscated along with some other dogs in southeast Kentucky as the result of a cruelty complaint in early August 2003. Regardless of having been nearly bald from sarcoptic mange and, at less than 40 lbs., almost starved to death--nutritionally and from severe infestation of hook and whipworms, Patrick is sooooooo sweet, affectionate, and devoted to humans. Not only was he neglected in his original situation, he was never able to play with other dogs in order to learn the "social graces" of play. Consequently, after he was cured of his contagious mange, he caused a lot of disruption for the first couple of days after being released from shelter custody to private home foster care. Finally, all of the dogs in his foster home ganged up and let him know that he was just too rough to be fun in playing and that he could either "gentle up" or forget tug, tag, wrestling, and snuggling. Being a smart boy, Patrick quickly got the message and is playing with everybody although he hasn't learned yet to watch out for the very small dogs whom he tramples during his exciting play with the bigger dogs. He is very curious about cats but doesn't appear to want to hurt them--just sniff nose to nose with those who will accommodate him. With good nutrition and elimination of his parasites, Patrick has put on weight (stabilized at 68.1 lbs. 10/13/03) and his beautiful black coat has come back. This big, affectionate, humorous boy is now ready for loving permanent home. He would like human children and possibly another dog for play--but definitely kids. Although he will walk on lead, he needs basic obedience training to perfect that and the safety commands of sit and stay.
