My Story

Patrick is an incredibly resilient, smart, and sweet-natured tripod pup with a lot of love to give. Patrick was born around January 15th, 2024, and at 5 months old weighs 14 kg. We anticipate Patrick will grow up to be a medium sized dog. He has big round puppy eyes, a boxy snout, and adorable floppy ears that wave in the wind as he runs towards you. After a game of tug or fetch in the backyard, Patrick loves to curl up on your lap for a nice long cuddle and snooze. When Patrick was 10 weeks old he was found in a field with a seriously injured spine. He was dragging his back legs and unable to access food or water. Luckily, his big voice and fearless spirit saved his life. After just a few days in foster care with New Hope, Patrick came down with the deadly parvovirus and spent nine days at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in critical condition. Over the last two months, Patrick worked hard to recover from parvovirus and regain mobility in his right back leg. Unfortunately, his left leg was too damaged and was amputated at the end of May. Patrick is getting around much better now and can run, play, climb, and explore like any other pup. Today, Patrick is an outgoing puppy who loves life and everyone he meets. He is learning to walk nicely on a leash, make new friends, potty outside, and sleep quietly through the night in his crate. He currently lives with an energetic tripod husky and a sassy older cat, both of whom he gets along well with. Patrick is looking for a home who will manage his mobility by keeping him fit and healthy. He will likely never be a dog who can go on long adventure walks or out to dog parks but will need exercise and enrichment in gentler ways. His new family will need to keep him on a veterinarian approved gastro diet and a physiotherapy program for the rest of his life. Adoption fee $295. He is neutered, dewormed, current on vaccines and microchipped.
