My Story

UPDATE: Oscar has been rescued and is in a foster home in the Seattle area! Courtesy posting: Oscar is a beautiful, sweet black lab mix puppy between 6-12 months old. He may be mixed with a bit of Chesapeake Bay Retriever, looking at his coloring, strong legs, and the way he carries his pretty tail like a flag. He arrived at the shelter badly undernourished with all his ribs showing, and has been putting on a bit of weight in the shelter but still will need double food portions in his new home for a while. He weighs 35 pounds and is a medium sized boy. We expect he should probably gain at least another 15-20 pounds before he is done growing. He may always be a bit on the small size for a male lab mix due to his rough start in life. His coat is a deep chocolate color which is so dark it is nearly black. Despite Oscar's obviously tough circumstances in the recent past, he is a loving, sweet, boy who wants to please. He loves being in the company of people, and was ok with both men and women, though a bit more timid around men. With a kind understanding man he quickly warms up and is very happy. He does well with school-aged children; no younger children were available to test him with. Oscar does beautifully with other dogs, and likely has lived with other dogs in his former home. He noticed the cats and showed a bit of curiosity, but was ready to move on to the next thing soon, and should do well with a feline family member. Not surprising for a boy who was underfed, it appears Oscar has not had much training. He is smart and wants to please, and will benefit from obedience training as he wants to know what is expected of him. Oscar is surprisingly mellow for a pup his age, and will make a wonderful companion for someone who has a lot of love to give and wants a lot of love in return. He will give his heart to the one who rescues him and gives him a loving home. Are you Oscar's hero?

Oscar is not a Mikey's Chance dog. This is a courtesy listing on behalf of the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter in Pasco, WA. If you would like to adopt Oscar, we would be happy to help as far as we can. However, you will adopt him directly from the Shelter and be responsible for his neutering and shots. We have evaluated Oscar, and we believe he has the potential to be a wonderful companion. But we are a small rescue, dependent on foster homes, and at present we don't have the capacity to bring him into our program. If you would like to help Oscar as a foster, and if you are sure you have the time, energy, and other resources to help in this way, we would love to hear from you at [email protected].
