Opossum

What a name - but wow, did it fit him when he first came into the program! Opossum had been running loose for many months in a very affluent neighborhood, right off a busy freeway - eating out of garbage cans and drinking rain water. He was being shot at regularly by people that were trying to scare him off their property. Many rescuers tried to catch him but he out smarted most of them ..... Until one day he met up with some very persistent people that just would not give up until he was caught -- and catch him, they did. Opossum was covered with sarcoptic mange and had very little hair so no one knew what breed of dog he was. By his size, we were guessing Golden Retriever but it still remained to be seen. After he healed and his hair came in, it was obviously that he was not a golden! Opossum got neutered, got all of his shots and had bullets removed from just under his skin. He has gone through heartworm treatment and is now heartworm negative. Opossum has gone from eating out of garbage cans and running from the sight of humans to being a completely spoiled, well adjusted, kicked back house dog -- sleeping every night on a thick blanket, curled up next to the refrigerator. He is totally house trained, letting you know he needs to go by going to the door and waiting for you. Other dogs are not a problem for this unique looking handsome man of about 6 years, nor are cats. He will almost frighten you by how intelligent he is -- you can almost see the wheels turning in his mind if you look into his eyes -- he can watch you do something and he thinks he can undo what you just did. He can open gate latches after about 5 minutes, so you have to make sure those outside gates have good latches on them! Send us an email and we will send you an application for this wonderful man!
