My Story

Onyx is a delightful and sociable 2&1/2 year old German Shepherd who adores both humans and other dogs. He came to STS from a vet office that reached out to us asking if we could help him as his owners were asking to euthanize him because he has EPI and they could not care for him. His friendly nature makes him a joy to be around, and he thrives on companionship and interaction. Whether he's playing with his foster siblings, going for walks, or just lounging on the couch, Onyx's happiness is contagious. Luckily, he found his way into a foster home where he's been thriving. He's been lovingly taken care of by his foster family, which includes several foster siblingsa including another German Shepherd and cats. Onyx gets along famously with them, enjoying their company during playtime and relaxation. Onyx has a zest for life and enjoys a balanced mix of activities. He absolutely loves going on walks, where he can explore and take in the sights and smells of the outdoors (with great leash manners). However, he's also quite the couch potato, relishing in quiet moments cuddled up on a comfortable couch or nestled in one of his many cozy dog beds. Onyx is a well-mannered pup. He loves snuggling and lounging on the couch. He's crate trained, finding comfort and security in his own space when needed. Onyx is also fully potty trained, making him an easy-going and low-maintenance addition to any household. Onyx has been diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), a condition where his pancreas doesn't produce enough digestive enzymes needed to properly digest food. As a result, Onyx was emaciated on arrival to STS as he wasn't getting the special enzyme supplement his body requires to be added to his meals to aid in the digestion process. Additionally, he benefits from a prescription diet tailored to his specific dietary needs. Despite his medical condition, Onyx doesn't let it slow him down. With proper management and care, he leads a happy and fulfilling life. Potential adopters should be financially committed to maintaining his prescribed diet and ensuring he receives his enzyme supplement with every meal )About $400 a month. While this may require some extra attention and diligence, Onyx's love and companionship make it all worthwhile. Onyx would thrive in a home where he can receive plenty of love and attention from his humans. A family that enjoys both outdoor activities and quiet evenings at home would be perfect for him. Since he gets along well with other dogs, a home with canine siblings would be a bonus for Onyx, providing him with companionship and playmates. He would appreciate having a comfortable couch to relax on and multiple dog beds scattered around the house for his lounging pleasure. Onyx is ready to find his forever home! Potential adopters should be prepared to provide him with love, attention, and a comfortable environment where he can continue to flourish. A commitment to his ongoing care, including regular exercise and mental stimulation, is essential. Onyx's new family should also be understanding of his affectionate nature and be willing to embrace him as a beloved member of the household.
