Ocean - MI
Breed
Labrador Retriever, Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler
Meet Ocean!
Ocean gave birth to eleven puppies the week before Christmas (Ocean's 11). Eleven puppies are enough by themselves, but Ocean had these puppies in an outside doghouse in sub-freezing temperatures and managed to keep all eleven of them alive for a week before they were rescued.
When she came to her current foster Ocean was understandably exhausted! All she wanted to do was eat, sleep and feed her babies. She was severely underweight and was pretty stinky!
Ocean immediately knew what the doggie door in her kennel was for, and not once did she potty in the indoor area, she always went potty in the outdoor kennel. Once she settled in and the puppies were a couple weeks old her foster began taking her out of the kennel on short walks and she would always potty while out on those walks.
Initially she only met the foster's four dogs through the kennel fence. When the puppies were older the foster introduced everyone and started letting Ocean out to run and play in the fenced yard with the adult dogs. It was like someone flipped a switch! Ocean became a big puppy herself again and loved every minute of it.
Once the puppies left Ocean was brought into the foster's house where she only had two accidents before she figured out not to potty inside. She has a large crate that she sleeps in every night and has never made a peep after lights out.
Ocean walks perfectly on a leash; she doesn't pull, and also doesn't lag behind. She stays right by your leg and constantly watches you to see where you're going. She rides well in the car as well, just lying quietly in the back seat.
Ocean is extremely skittish but is making progress every day. She doesn't seem to mind men or women and has done well around children. Due to her skittishness though she would probably do better with older children who would understand the need to be quiet and calm around her. Ocean would most definitely do best with another dog (or three!) in the home. She still will not approach her foster on her own unless the other dogs are also around.
Ocean is still young enough herself that she likes to chew. She can also get the squeaker out of toys in a matter of minutes!
Ocean is a super sweet girl and is going to make someone a great pet as long as they are patient with her.
Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue in Arkansas.
We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI.
Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue.
Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee.
MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION:

Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications.
The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport.
Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!
