Oberon is a magnificent Border Collie puppy. He is currently 46 pounds, gorgeous, awake, alert, and ready. Social and energetic, Oberon is aching to work with a partner who enjoys purely positive training. His body, tail, legs, and muzzle are all long and narrow, basically creating an athletic dog on springs. His markings are unusual and striking, as are his light blue eyes, one of which is heterochromic, with a little dab of tan at the top of the iris. His glossy, silky coat is medium-length and somewhat wavy, and thus is easy to groom. His ears have not yet decided what they will be, and indeed they may never: sometimes one is up, sometimes the other, sometimes neither.
Oberon has the sizzling intelligence and drive for which the breed is famous. He needs plenty of brain exercise every day, as well as physical challenge. Imagine a dog who herds sheep all day, paying attention to every detail of the herd and the environment, responding to his human's cues, running, downing, leaping, turning, stopping; that is Oberon's makeup. He also happens to be a very social, confident, affectionate dog who gets along well with other dogs and with cats.
He is house trained and polite in the house, he's a snuggler, and he does have an off switch. Nonetheless, he needs to be busy for some of the time every day or he will be bored, and a bored BC will create his own jobs. Oberon sleeps quietly in his large crate in his foster mother's bedroom.
Oberon is very special. If you are looking for a sporting partner -- herding, agility, obedience, flyball, dock diving, rally, etc. -- you may have found him in this King of the Faeries. Oberon's ability to focus on his handler is stunning, as is his ability to read his handler's mind. He is cooperative and responsive, confident but appropriately submissive. And he's only at most 7 months old -- imagine what he'll be after a few years working with a skilled handler.
Oberon can be a family dog if he works with one of the adults. He cannot be left alone for long periods, he is not a dog to sleep most of the day, he is not a good companion for toddlers. He's a fancy sporting vehicle, not a pedestrian pup.
Active, joyous, and ready for adventure, Oberon has been neutered, has received core vaccines, has been treated for parasites, and has an implanted microchip.
