My Story

Isn’t he a handsome boy? Norton is about a year old (born August 2009), 70#, a purebred Black Labrador Retriever, and a very wonderful boy! He is an owner surrender because he made a mistake and bit a local jogger on the calf. Norton is a pretty submissive dog, if the jogger had just stopped and told him to go home, he probably would've turned tail and ran! The owners were unable to put up a fence in their development and couldn’t agree to work with him, so they had him scheduled to be euthanized. How ridiculous is that? He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, is quite submissive with other dogs, doesn’t bark, and loves everyone he meets. CARES could not let a puppy be euthanized for a mistake, so Norton is available for adoption.

Norton gets along with other dogs, knowing when to roll over on his back. He is definitely the bottom of the totem pole! Pretty pathetic when a Yorkie can make a Lab roll over! He is playful, enjoys running around and playing with balls. He is fine with cats, too.

He is crate trained and house trained. He will lay by your side and watch TV in the evening. You don’t even know he’s around, he is very quiet.

Norton has been around children as young as 6 and is very gentle with them. He is a happy boy, so his wagging tail may hit them, but he’s a lab—to be expected! His tail never stops wagging--he is just the happiest dog! He does not jump on people when he meets them, he is pretty reserved. Norton has been on many camping trips and loves to meet new people and enjoy new things—always being a perfect dog!

What does Norton need? We cannot ignore his mistake, so he does need a home with a fenced in yard, and a family that will take him to Obedience classes. Being a Lab Lover would be helpful, too! Who can give Norton the 2nd chance at the wonderful life he deserves?
