Adoption fee is waived for Noel & includes her DHLPP vaccination, exam, & the 30 days free pet insurance.

Little Noel by our guess is about 12 yrs old (give or take a few yrs). At this point in her life, she didn't want toys or treats for Christmas, all she wanted was the unconditional love of her family. Instead of her family being thankful around Christmas time that they still were blessed with her, they took her out in the country (no where near homes) & must have dumped her on the roadside Christmas Eve. Someone that just happened to be passing through find her shivering on the roadside. If you remember the weather this past Christmas, it was cold, icy & freezing...what does a old, housedog do being dumped out in that weather? It's sad, but not uncommon for people to plan on getting themselves or the kids a puppy for x-mas...after all isn't that every child's dream? It will be 'too much' with 2 dogs & probably 'too much' on them to see this old dog die, so why not tell themselves she piecefully fell asleep wherever they left her? So many parents seem to want to shield their children from death so bring in a new puppy when the older dog is too old....in Noel's case "she must have wandered off to die, but here's a cute puppy to take your minds off her".

Poor Noel is just very old, very fragile, but very sweet. She seems to be in no pain or we'd have held her little paw as she went to sleep. There is no way of knowing how much time she has left, so a 'supportive care' type home would be what she needs...just someone to love her until she says her time is up. Noel does not seem to have any hearing, and her sight seems to be so limited. The unclipped coat she had before preventing a lot of sight simply because fur blocked both eyes completely. Because of those 2 things though, it's extremely important she's approached slowly or she gets scared...think of yourself not being able to hear or see much and then suddenly scooped up in a strange place--you'd be scared too! She is not going to be placed in a home with kids or young, active pets as it wouldn't be fair to her. Most shelters would have euthanized her, but since we by law have to hold any dog 7 day in case an owner truly "lost" her, we've learned she's just a content little girl. She is happy & her little stub tail can wiggle. She enjoys being carried around, and roaming in the kennel area when the other dogs are outside & we are cleaning...so quality of life is not over yet for her. And we are a no-kill shelter (exception: dangerous animals) because we believe, and past experience has showed, no matter how untrained or how bad off the animal is, there is always going to be someone willing to open their heart & home to them. But again, had she been suffering, we'd have told her how precious she was as she went over the rainbow bridge, just as we'd do for any of our own pets. Noel does sleep most of the day, enjoys being pet, and spends some time nibbling on her food...boy was she starved upon arrival! Because she is old, her teeth aren't the best, so she does best on the softer food, but can eat dry. She will never be a 'fat' dog again, as old dogs tend to get thin, just like humans.

Noel is old, she has problems, but so will we all some day...does that mean she shouldn't be in a home with love for the time she is with us? She is about 10# & a black/silver mini schnauzer. What she needs is a quiet home that will treasure her for whatever time she has left in her...weeks, months or years? Because of her special needs, we have waived the adoption fee on her, but you will still need to apply to insure it's a good match for her. We also will not require she be spayed at this point in her life (if she is not already done).

If you'd like to sponsor Noel for $25, you can mail the donation to CCHS (C/O Noel) POB 127; Neillsville, WI 54456. Or you can safely donate on our website www.cchs-petshelter.org - thank you!
