My Story

Update 10/21/09
Still waiting for that forever home. We have got to know Nicole so well, she is firmly entrenched as an "up front" dog. Nicole is fully recovered from her injuries, and does really well with not having any accidents. Nicole plays very well with puppies - even babies. She does great with them, she is so gentle. We are so impressed.

We think maybe she is not finding her forever home because she makes an initially bad first impression. When new people come in, she barks. Are you friend or Foe? New people get nervous or scared, she gets nervous and runs away. She never bites, just barks. But when there are so many other dogs who are enthusiastic upon first meeting, Nicole gets passed over time and time again. Please call or email and set up a time to meet Nicole. Give her 15 minutes. She'll warm to you, and give you so much sugar - you wouldn't know the nervy little thing she can be when she meets you for the first time. She desperately wants to love you. She just wants to know you won't hurt her first. She'll also do ANYTHING for a treat !!! Please call or email today!

Update: 09/17/2009

Where Oh Where is Sweet Nicole's Forever home? There have been a few events in her life, and we have got to know her a whole lot better as a result. All the other dogs jumped on her in the yard about 2 weeks ago, and she was hurt. We brought her up front, and our vets did a great job at stitching and stapling her back together. The biggest wound was under her arm, which is a very difficult place to keep closed. It's almost healed now, and she's been on a big course of antibiotics.

Because we don't feel safe leaving her out in the yard with the dogs, she has become one of the 'office' dogs, hanging out with Indigo and Solitaire. She's about 90% housetrained. We are still teaching her to let us know when she needs to go out. We keep an eye on her, and take her out about every 4-5 hrs and she does fine.

Out in the yards, running and playing she and her sister Paris had always seemed to be very active dogs. But indoors she's so calm and good! She will make an EXCELLENT house dog. She loves toys, but will not tear anything up in your house. She is well out of the 'puppy' chewing stage. She will walk on a harness well, without pulling, although she's shy of going through doors (doesn't know whats on the other side) so that takes a little coaxing. A treat in the hand does the trick.

Nicole has a cautious nature and will be wary of new dogs and people - after a few minutes when 'no threat' is established she will be fine :) She is not a barker, except bark when someone new that she does not know enters the home. She would scare any intruders off and will make a great alarm system.

She loves to sleep in a blanket, or even better in a crate. She loves her crate and feels very secure in there. Nicole is so loving and sweet.

She will also make a great running buddy, or walking partner. She and Paris get along great, and would be great to adopt as a pair. They would keep each other company. This is not a necessity however.

Nicole is a great medium size, good with children, doesn't jump up and is an all around 5 star house dog. They are both well out of the puppy stage. Because we have had her on heartguard since she was a puppy, she is GUARANTEED heartworm negative by the manufacturer of Heartguard, so long as she is kept on this preventative every month.

Please come and visit her at the shelter, or call/email about her today. She has been at the shelter since she was a puppy, and it seems like we always have another dog that stands out more. She and her sister are constantly overlooked by adopters. She is a great dog who desperately needs a loving home, out of the shelter. Please be her Hero.
