NICO

Anyone Local to Tulsa Ok will recognize this sweet old man. He was initially posted right before the first big freeze we had back in 2022. Nico could be seen running all over Tulsa making sometimes miles a day. Every time a rescue had been attempted, he would disappear before they would arrive. I believe he was posted 7 times minimum that I alone know of. He started out very emaciated and afraid, but he definitely had not missed a meal since everyone started luring him with food. At one point he was caught in a backyard, and he jumped the fence and escaped. We were gutted. Finally, a local trapper was able to safely secure him and bring him to us at Mercy. Nico WAS very fearful of leashes, and humans, but not at all aggressive. It became quickly very clear he was owned at some point as he was familiar with couches, kitties, and kennels. He allowed us to microchip, heartworm test, and vaccinate him laying on the couch unmuzzled the day we met him. He was unfortunately heavy heartworm positive, Ehrlichea positive, intact, and in desperate need of a dental and had a lot of wounds on his face and his eye. We have treated all of these and had him neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, gotten him healthy, socialized and into a foster home to await his forever. His foster reports him to be a gentle giant, who she can leave all day on the couch unkenneled without any behavioral issues. He doesn't bark or get agitated when new people come over and he's never tried to run away or jump her fence. I think it's safe to say he trusts now and is ready for retirement. Nico loves kids, calm dogs, cats, and most of all, couches.
