Nick has found a new forever home. Let's hope he doesn't find any horses to chase at his new digs. Thank you Deanna S. for giving our sweet boy a new place to hang his hat
UPDATE 10/26: Nick has come back to us. Poor Nick! On his 3 legs, he chased and bit a horse and his family got sanctioned by the town. This isn't really Nick's fault because he was off leash in an area where leashing is required. And many dogs will chase horses if given the opportunity. He is a sweet sweet boy who has had a tough life but is a wonderful pet nonetheless. He loves other dogs and gets along fine with cats.
There will be no adoption fee for Nick to the right home. He is currently being fostered in MA
UPDATE 4/6 when he arrived in New England from the south: As soon as Nick got off the transport, when many arriving dogs are very scared, our NIck was immediately giving everyone kisses, wagging his tail, and greeting all the other dogs at the transport stop. This is one incredibly sweet dog! He was so worth saving. If you adopt this guy, you will have made a dear friend for life.
Nick's history in the south, chronologically from bottom up
Nick has had his amputation and is no longer in pain. He had a good result. His video slide show shows Nick before his first surgery, then standing up in his cast after his surgery. His third still photo shows him finally able to be getting around now on his 3 legs instead of painfully hobbling on 4. The swelling at the amp site will go down and he will have a nice appearance once he is all healed. Can you give this sweet, sweet boy a forever home? He so deserves one.
UPDATE 3/6: Sadly, it appears Nick has had a "non-union" of his fracture despite the plates that were put in. He will now need an amputation of the leg. The upside is that his recovery time should be quite short before he is up and around again and will likely be just as good on 3 legs as 4. We are still looking for a forever home for this sweet boy who has been through so much. P.S. He is GREAT with cats!
2/1/08: THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL DONORS! Thanks to you all, Nick had two plates put into his leg and at least had an attempt to save the leg. Sadly, it didn't work but at least it was tried.
Nick is a wonderful, sweet guy who was found lying in pain by the side of an interstate in TN at the end of December, 2007. Due to the extent of his injuries, the vet guessed that he had been thrown from a moving car. We don't know how long he was lying there but he was very very thin when he was found. He needed surgery on his leg for fractures which was performed January 4, 2008. Pet Matchmaker covered most of the cost of this surgery via donations from our website. His adoption fee is $300. Thank you to Jenn and Tim D., Mike H. and Dave D., Bob and Mrs. H. , and Eric G. , Ann F., Jan F. and Alyssa M. for helping to save this sweet boy.
