My Story

Aloha! My name is Mutis (mootea) and I was rescued by a nice lady in Regina a year ago from Mexico, where my brother and I were abused and neglected. I am two years old, neutered and vaccinations up to date. I do not trust easily so you must let me come to you first. I tend to bark out of fear. I was fearful of people period because they did not treat me or my brother well at all.

I am very loveable my mom says, like to cuddle. I am a Basenji/Whippet/Shar Pei cross. I love to play with toys and I really like to chew on my dental bone and throw it in the air and chase it. My mom says I am very smart; love to run so I would need daily brisk walks and at least once a week run on the trails etc. I walk well on a leash and automatically sit to wait for my meals (three a day) and I like my dry dog food mixed with a bit of moist food. And I like healthy dog treats, plus carrots and Saskatoon berries. My mom gives me a carrot stick to chew on which is fun.

I may look confident but am scared of people at first and do not do well with male dogs, or they do not seem to like me. I do like my sister as she is about the same size as me (40 pounds), she loves me and she is confident and if I steal her bone, she whacks me on my head to get it back. So my mom says I would do well in a single dog home or one with a gentle but confident female dog. No male dogs and no young children, and I should be with caring and gentle experienced dog owners. And take me to Dog Dens Dog School whose philosophy is positive enforcement training. So a manners class with socialization would be good as I only know my sister and adopted brothers right now.

I would not do well in a traditional obedience class. Fear based programs and aggressive training frighten me more and I do better with socialization programs and training. Once I trust you I follow you everywhere, I like to be around people so it would be nice to have someone home with me most of the time, I am not crate trained and I am good in the house, and have my own toys and bed. My mom and family love me a lot but one of my brothers does not like me so they have kept us separated which they do not feel is fair. I would be good at agility classes too or if you like to run I would be a good running partner. My mom says I am a very smart, handsome boy, funny, and well behaved.

So if you are an experienced dog owner, who has the time for me I am a great dog and would make a great companion, I love affection and to be by your side and love to run and run. My mom says you can contact her at: Stacy Riggs at 585-3422 or [email protected] Thank you Mootea
