ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 35 lbs
KNOWN WITH DOGS: Muffin is currenlty living with three large dogs. After a period of adjustment she now enjoys relaxing near one of the resident dogs (though her human will always be her favorite) She adjusts to dogs her size or smaller faster. She doesn't play with other dogs but will follow them around and nap next to them. Muffin could also be happy as an only dog as long as you are mostly home.
KNOWN WITH CATS: Muffin's cat compatibility is an unknown. We can find out.
KNOWN WITH KIDS: Muffin should be fine with children who will let her warm up to them at her own pace. Children running toward her will scare her. She is a good natured dog and will be gentle with children who wait for her to approach.
KNOWN COMMANDS: Muffin's learning basic commands. She comes when called, she knows "si"t and "go to bed".
KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING/OR CRATING: Muffin's got the whole housebreaking thing "baked" into her routine! She finds the crate stressful but luckily doesn't need to be crated. This girl can be totally trusted to be free in the home.
KNOWN LIKES: Muffin's LOVES being around her humans, happily snoozing near you. She loves treats and meal time.
DISLIKES: Muffin's not a fan of sudden movements, but with a little buttering up, she's getting braver by the day! Muffin doesn't like her human leaving but she's made huge progress, sitting by the window or near a dog friend until her human returns. She would do best in a home where someone is often home with her.
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Say hello to Muffin, the deliciously sweet and slightly shy 6-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix. She's a connoisseur of relaxation, enjoying cozy windowside naps and leisurely strolls. While she enjoys the company of most dogs, she is more comfortable with smaller dogs. Muffin's transition from rural to indoor life has been delectably smooth, and now she's ready to find her forever home - the cherry on top of her delightful journey!
Muffin came to Homeward Trails from a rural shelter. She was surrendered to the rural shelter by an elderly person who had too many animals and was overwhelmed caring for them. Our guess is that Muffin lived most if not all of her life outside. It's taken her zero time to decide inside life suits her just fine.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering by visiting http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program
