Meet MoJo! MoJo is one lucky boy and lucky to be alive. He was found trying to survive on the side of the road, wandering in and out of traffic, scrounging for food. While this story is fairly common, MoJo had some distinct disadvantages that made this much more difficult for him. It was obvious he was blind in his right eye, walked a little crooked and his neck was slit from one side to the other. After being examined by the vet, she determined that MoJo had suffered a fairly significant head injury and not from being hit by a car. MoJo was struck in the head with a blunt object and was hit so hard it blew out his right eye. It also caused him to be mostly deaf. Because of his head injury, this causes him to have some balance issues. All of these issues are permanent and he will not recover from them. He does not however require any special treatments, equipment or medications. He was initially treated with steroids to reduce the swelling in his brain but has since been tapered off of them and is doing well. He does have some "swimming" behavior and walks a little crooked because of his abuse history. He sometimes accidentally runs into things because of his disabilities but this does not stop him. MoJo loves having dog company. He does very well with female dogs and would do best in a home with another active female dog who likes to play. MoJo does fine with male dogs but does try and be alpha over males. MoJo loves people and just loves getting attention. He is a little shy around and gets upset around dark skinned people. We believe this may be related to his abuse history. MoJo would also do best in a home with older children as he can be very clumsy and easily knock over a younger child. MoJo also likes to "mouth" a little so would need a little training with this. We are sure this is because he just gets so excited to being treated well, something he is not used to. MoJo is also not housetrained and would need some work in this area. Because he has been chained his entire life, he has not yet learned that he can go potty and move away from it. We believe he was tied up with an electrical cord or wire and this is why he had a severe cut to his throat several layers deep. He may have a permanent scar on his neck and because his neck is still healing, we do not have a collar on him and are not leash training at this time. Mojo can be easily startled when awakened as he does not hear you. The first day after we rescued him, we called and called him and could not arouse him, we thought he had passed away from his injuries. Once we touched him, he immediately woke up. So we have determined he is most likely mostly deaf. He does seem to respond to some degree while awake and he is learning alot from his foster doggie sister Tinkerbell. He would do best with another female who is well trained as he learns alot from another dog. Due to MoJos' abuse history, he will not be taken to adoptions showings at Petco. We feel this would be too stressful for him. He is doing extremely well and just needs a home to love him and take care of him. He is small for his breed mix, about 40 pounds. He was loaded with parasites when rescued. We do not know if he will have a growth spurt to make up for lost time or not. We do not expect him to be much more than 45-50 pounds. He is about 1 year old and medium sized. He has a very nice shiney black coat and really causes no trouble. He does stagger to one side when he barks but only barks when strangers come up. He is friendly with people unless he feels they are a threat to him, then he will bark at them. He has immediately bonded with his foster Dad so he has no trouble loving people. He does very well with the foster puppies at the same home.

Adoption showings are every Sat & Sun at the WLR Petco on Chenal Parkway across from Target and Home Depot from 1-4. We do not show on holiday weekends. Also, you may want to call the store to make sure this pet is still available. Please call during our showing hours at 501-219-9907 as the store employees are not always aware on the availability of our rescues. Email contact is
[email protected]
Due to time restraints, we are not able to accept phone calls outside of our showing times at Petco (Sat & Sun 1-4) but we always try and answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our young and adult dogs require a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process. This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. Puppies are not available to go on home visits. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times. All of our foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of our foster homes have cats, so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats.
We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. We rely solely on donations and are a 501(c)3 Humane Society. The only support we receive is from donations from the general public.
Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs are euthanized.
