My Story

Misty is a 2 year old Corgi/Shepherd mix that weighs about 30 lbs. She has quite a story to tell. She came from a South Dakota reservation where she was abandoned when her owners moved and left her behind to fend for herself. She was fearful out there by herself & people were trying to catch her to no avail.  She was eventually caught after she was weakened by a porcupine attack. She had lots of quills in her face, head, neck & one in the corner of her eye.  We were notified by a contact in SD & we agreed to help her. We asked that she be brought to the nearest Vet who sedated her & pulled out a lot of quills, put her on antibiotics & medicated eye ointment. Then transport was arranged for her to come to Second Chance.  We immediately brought her to one of the clinics we use and more quills were removed under sedation. There were many more trips to the Vet to monitor her eye, which recovered nicely, and to continue to pull quills that were working their way out of her.   Despite the long & painful recovery from the embedded quills & healing from a previous broken leg, Misty is a happy girl now & absolutely loves everyone she meets.  She is a real people dog & loves to be by her foster mom or any visitors that stop by.  She is housetrained and has not gotten into anything when left alone loose in the house. She rarely barks & she know sit, come, and stay.  She comes when called, likes to go for walks,&  likes to go for car rides. She does pull some on leash so she needs a little more leash work.  She is afraid of dogs that approach too fast - so she needs to have slow introductions when meeting other dogs.  She would also be fine as an only dog. Misty would make an excellent companion for someone who wants a very sweet, devoted dog.   She has been spayed, vaccinated, and her heartworm test and tick profile are both negative. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee is $375. If you would like to meet Misty, please call 651-771-5662.
