And now, a few words from me:
Hi! (Jumps in the air.) My name is Miles (Jump!) and I'm from a puppy mill. I am a very happy and playful boy now that I am rescued. I have quite the loving personality....everyone who meets me says so! (Jump!!) I snuggle well, sit in your lap, and love to rub my head under people's necks! I get along fine with dogs, but I prefer the love of a person. (Sitting by your feet.) So much so that I love to follow you around the house looking for love, and usually ignore the other dogs around me! Look behind you before you step, cause I'll be right at your heels. (Right at your heels.) I always love to be in a room with a person, but I do just fine when I'm home alone for the day with my foster brother! Since I spent my life in a cage, I really am not big on going back in those things. I'm okay for a short time, but not for a whole day or at night! And I love to ride in the car. I sit nicely, but sometimes I want to sit on foster mom and foster dad's lap! My favorite part of the day is when my foster mom and dad come home. (Jump!) I get excited to see them and makes sure they know it. (Bark!) I even turn in circles left and right, just to show them how excited I am. (Turns left and right.) But I know people are busy and have things to do, so after you get home I just sit on the blanket and wait until you pet me. Oh, and I love to lie next to you on the couch, and I sometimes ask for permission to jump up! (Jump Up!) I also love to sleep on blankets...anything soft! I'm not a big walker but I am happy with going for short walks around the block. I never leave my foster mom or dad's side when we go for walks, I like to stay close by at all times! And now, a few words from my foster mom: Miles is a very sweet and loving dog! He gets excited to see you if you have been gone from your home. He jumps up high in the air, but not on you. He barks, but only for short bursts. He turns in tight circles left and right. He greets you with love. Then he settles down, so you can do all those things you need to do when you get home: like putting away the groceries, having a coffee, chores around the house, etc. At the time of fostering he was un-neutered. He goes outside to do his business easily, and comes in when his name is called. Miles has some fears around his food bowl, and prefers to eat from a shallow bowl or from a hand...at times he needs coaxing to eat, but once he is started, he will finish his meals. Miles does not food guard, thus it might be a little difficult with another dog in the house who would eat his food before him....which happens right now with his foster brother. He will also sit for a treat if it is tasty enough! Miles is very affectionate. He welcomes a gentle touch with a calming voice. He famously lies on any soft textile, but especially a piece of personal clothing, such as a pair or pants or a T-shirt. He loves to be near you, even if it's by association. He often waits by the window for the return of either myself or my husband. He has been given several baths, which he accepts calmly. He has also been to the groomers to get his nails clipped, and has been clipped at home by us. Miles has had his ears cleaned, and does so with much fuss. He wears a collar, has been walked on a leash for short trips. He has also worn sweaters, rain coats, and even booties. Miles in fine around a vacuum, dish washer, blender, air purifier, and any household appliance. He knows how to go up and down the stairs. Miles requires a home that has patience with his fear of food, and can continue to work with him on his eating behaviour. If there are children they need to respect his small size, as he is easily lost in the commotion. In return Miles will be a devoted and loving addition to a family.
Update 2009/03/21
Miles has begun to growl and bite on occasion, usually when his hind legs are being touched in some way. He is still very sweet and loving and the displays of aggression are his way of protecting himself. Miles has a tendency to guard his food (having been deprived of it for so long in the puppy mill, for him it is a premium commodity) On a positive note, he is now eating out of his food bowl almost exclusively. He does not like to share his foster mom with our newest foster, and will growl when the other dog approaches foster mom for cuddles. For these reasons, Miles would do very well in a home without any other dogs, or with another dog who is passive, like his foster brother. A home with children under 10 years of age would not be appropriate for Miles.
