My Story

My name is Mia and I’m looking for my forever home. My “must haves” are a securely fenced yard and another nice dog to show me the ropes. I’m 1 y.o. and weigh 27 pounds. SIRA rescued me from a commercial breeding facility and brought me to my foster home in Sussex, WI. I was so scared at first – everything was so strange and new. But I’m getting braver and more relaxed every day. I love playing with toys and with other dogs. I will groom them to show that I like them. I’m good with the resident cat here too. Sometimes we all sleep together with the humans in their big bed. I love to snuggle! I’m a natural couch potato - the best binge-watch buddy you could ask for. I’m kind-of a picky eater, but I’ve learned that human food is nice, especially ice cream, cheese, chicken, and bread. Sometimes I’ll sneak up to try to steal a treat. I’m getting used to being outside. The strange noises and people still scare me, but I’m learning. I’m tall and foster mom says I’m very graceful when I’m walking and running. Even though I’m a couch potato, I can be fast when I want to be! I’m often a night owl. When everything is quiet and dark is when I feel most safe and will do brave things. There are not any little humans here, but I they might scare me with their running and squealing and activity. Because being outside is scary, learning how to leash walk has been slow-going, but foster mom says with some practice, I’ll get the hang of it. In the meantime, I’m content to look out the windows from the safety of the house where things are quiet. I’m a good girl indoors. I’m crate trained and potty trained and I don’t make much noise unless I’m playing with the other dogs. I know my name and even some commands! I’m respectful of gates – I haven’t tried to climb over them or scoot under them. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a snuggle-buddy, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can tell if we’d be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster parents so we can meet.
