MARGO was running loose and scared as a stray on the streets when she was picked up by Animal Control. Like tens of thousands of dogs impounded each year in New Jersey, MARGO was destined to be euthanized after the State mandated holding period elapsed. MARGO had suffered terribly at the cruel hands of her original owner. Terrified of every noise, object and person, she cowered and trembled and crawled on her belly in fear every day. Animal Alliance was notified and we found a place for MARGO in a wonderful foster home. She is now about 3 years-old and has come a long way. Her kind foster guardian did some research on dog training, and sought the help of world renowned dog trainer, Andres Aportela, proprietor of Professional Pet Center in Frenchtown, New Jersey. MARGO'S foster guardian asked Andres if he would donate his time to help MARGO overcome her intense fears, which would prohibit her from being adopted and leading a happy life as a well-adjusted pet. Over the next months Margo and her foster guardian attended weekly classes at Andres's school where he applied his time-honored skills to transform her into a more confident canine. From there he instructed Margo on the obedience skills she would need to help her face the world she so feared. Margo's life has changed immeasurably. Her appetite is good, her coat is shiny and she plays with the enthusiasm of a puppy. This dog might have easily succumbed to the destiny of many abandoned dogs, but for the intervention of Animal Alliance and Andres Aportela, she will someday find a loving forever home and have nothing more to fear. MARGO is eager to find that home. Her long time foster mother is committed to her and will help with the transition to a new family. MARGO is perfectly housetrained, and has earned an international title in Obedience and continues her training with her foster guardian.
