My Story

update 7/19/09: Maddie is smaller than she appears on the website, packing 39 pounds into a compact frame that only reaches 16 inches at her shoulder. She was so good about being sniffed all over by her two new roommates and cautiously sniffed them back when the opportunity allowed, then easily settled into her foster home. It was the same with the four cats of varying temperaments.

Like most mature dogs, Maddie lets you know when she has to go out. She has not had any accidents in her new foster home, and has slept straight through the night in her crate with nary a whimper. She has no food aggression toward animals or people. And, just when you think she is only quiet and sedate she grabs a tennis ball and starts playing fetch by herself, with spins around the living room in between. But it’s just in spurts and then she settles right down. Maddie loves to cuddle and have her belly rubbed and will jump into your lap if invited. July 18 2009

This is a fun-loving low maintenance dog with the manners of a grown-up and the spirit of a puppy when it is time to play. She ended up in a shelter when her family lost their housing, but it is clear that they raised her with care. She will be a wonderful companion. Maddie has arrived into foster care. She is being fostered in Vermont.

Maddie is approximately 3 years old in these pictures taken March 7, 2009 at our partner shelter in Arkansas. She is 39 pounds. She was turned into the shelter beacuse her family had lost their housing. .

She is a happy, loving girl that is always smiling. Maddie gets along great with all the dogs she has met They found out when they took her to the Doggie Bunny Hop on April 4, that she wants to be a lap baby. She just jumped up to sit on any volunteer sitting in a lawn chair. She loved everyone she met regardless of their age. She is very strong on a leash and will need a little work with that. We recommend a "gentle leader" Maddie is also heartworm negative!!

Maddie is such a love with everyone she meets. She lived successfully with a cat in her previous home.
