Mack is a 4yr old male GSP. He has a birthday coming up in February so we hope to have him a new family to celebrate with!!
Mack is an owner surrender. His owners are heartbroken about having to give Mack up (they've had him since he was a pup) but they feel it's best for Mack and their family. Mack started having seizures when he was 2 yrs old, his owners now have two children and cannot keep up with giving Mack his medication on time. Mack is on Phenobarbital, twice a day. If given his medication at the same time every day, Mack will not have a seizure, but if forgotten then he will. With now having a newborn in the house as well as another child, his owner just can't seem to remember giving Mack his meds. His medication only costs $16 a month. Mack is very healthy other wise..he's a typical, energetic gsp!!
Mack is wonderful with children, other dogs, cats and even chinchilla's!! Which he lives with all currently! When a volunteer met Mack, he gave her no problems with touching him all over, looking into his mouth, he just stood there wiggling that stub of a tail!
Mack has been hunt trained and is very birdy. Per his owner "When in the field he was a great bird dog. When the seizures started he would hunt for a bit and then would go back to the truck after a few shots fired. His owner thinks he might be starting to become gun shy? If he is out in the field and you don't have a gun then he will run and look for birds. He does better if you are not hunting with a pack of dogs or in close contact with other hunters as he gets confused. He prefers to be just one on one".
Mack needs a home that will remember his medication, a nice fenced in yard and a family that is active and will make him a part of their every day lives. All he really needs is you!
