My Story

Mabel loves you. Of course, she does! You and you and you. She is a people pleaser and don't you forget it. Beautiful Mabel loves attention, but if she doesn't get it she will back off and wait. Or go play with other dogs. When she plays, she plays full out. Mabel lives life to the fullest no matter what she is doing. Mabel is a mix but we aren't sure what. She came from a litter of five, and has Australian shepherd markings, but she has short fur and also looks like an Australian cattle dog. Whatever she is, she is all puppy. She is about 7 months old and weighs 40 pounds. Mabel came as an uncivilized girl who hurled herself at humans to be petted and loved on. She is improving. She loves to rush in for pets but she is starting to learn some manners. The training technique is to throw your arms up and look away when she jumps, and then once she is on all fours, to praise her and pet her then. She understands this now, although she is so excited that she breaks back into her love-me-now mode. She has no experience with kids but she would probably love them. Since she is still learning to stay down she might not be a match for young children, or for anyone with mobility impairments. Cats? Probably not. She wants to play, play, play. A cat might not be receptive. Mabel is crate trained but she doesn't enjoy it. When put in a crate at night, she lets out a quiet plaintive whine, but settles down once the lights are out. During the day when left supervised, she is in a room without knick knacks or delicate things to knock over, with a dog door and access to a yard. Mabel is potty trained, kind off. She knows how to use the doggie door and accidents are uncommon, but she will need patience if she has to adapt to going potty on a leash. She is learning to walk on a leash. She mostly follows her human and the leash is there between them. She is smart and learning. Mabel would enjoy an active household, perhaps one where the family is out in the yard and or out on adventures. She would excel in a household with another dog, older kids, and plentiful treats available. She would enjoy all the love, attention and joy of being special that all dogs crave. She is spayed, chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines, including influenza. She is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm preventative. Mabel is fostered in southeast Nebraska.
