My Story

LORETTA - ID#A138629 I am a spayed female, white and brown Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 3 years old. I have been at the shelter since Feb 07, 2008. MY NAME IS LORETTA AND I AM VERY FRIENDLY AND MILD MANNERED. I AM PLAYFUL AND I LOVE TO RUN! I'M JUST ONE SWELL GIRL. I LIKE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND I LIKE OTHER BIG DOGS LIKE ME, BUT I'M NOT SO GOOD WITH LITTLE DOGS OR CATS. I KNOW SIT AND DOWN AND I'M HOUSETRAINED! TAKE ME HOME! NOTES FROM PREVIOUS ADOPTERS: We adopted this beautiful girl from the Albuquerque Animal Humane Association in early April. We named her Persephone, but AHA calls her Loretta. She was such a joy to have around, a real lover. She will stand in front of you and wag her tail and be so polite, just hoping you'll invite her to sit with you. She loves to snuggle with her people, and she followed us around the house keeping us company. Her favorite part of the day was evening when the family settled in to relax; she liked to move from person to person, sharing some cuddles with each one of us. She was clearly abused in her former life; she's very timid around men, but as she gets to know them and comes to understand that she's not going to get hit, she'll relax. She got under the table every time she saw my husband at first, but by the end of the second week she was with us, she greeted him at the door every evening with a wag and a grin. We had started her in obedience training and she was learning fast! She knows 'sit' and 'down' and will get in her crate when told to 'go to bed.' We also taught her to step back from the door and sit down when we said 'stay home.' She was doing very well learning to walk on a leash. We had her in a training collar, but she was coming along so nicely that we didn't think she'd need it much longer. We have four children, ages 14, 12, 10, and 5. As you can see from one of the photos, she loved them! We were forced, through bitter tears, to return her to AHA because her prey drive is too strong. We have two small dogs and a cat who were not safe with her. We also have a dog about the same size as Persephone/Loretta and they adored each other, spending lots of time every day running together in the yard and lounging on their favorite chair. If you want a dog and have no cats or small dogs, please go visit Persephone/Loretta and see if she's a good match for you! We truly, deeply loved this girl and she deserves a forever home!
