My Story

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Lizzie, one of 4 puppies surrendered to us from a Humane Society via PAWS. We believe the litter may be collie/Maremma based on their coats and the photo of Mom in the bio. We had heard that Dad was black but based on their colouring we think there was more than one father in this litter. She has small paws so will be a medium size dog when grown. She has medium-length fur. Lizzie has changed so much in the short time she has been in foster care. All of the pups were so frightened of human touch, though they did know their names from the shelter. We have kept their names for this reason, not to confuse them and they are all picked up and cuddled throughout the day. This has helped immensely with the trust factor of humans. We are also grateful they are food motivated and have a high intelligence level of perhaps the Collie in them. They know to come when called and have started playing with each other and a few of the other puppies in the foster home. Lizzie is a real doll. She always looks like she is smiling, and a beautiful smile it surely is! She doesn't freeze now when picked up and learned very quickly that dinner time is in the crate. They are all fed 3 times daily. She looks very much like her sister Rickie except Lizzie has some Apricot colouring in her coat. They love to go outside and will run around the perimeter and play chase. They enjoy water and are quite good in the bath. She gets warm easily so isn't out in the sun. She likes to sleep in her crate with the door open. Lizzie is paper-trained and will go outside to do her business. The ideal home for Lizzie is one where she is provided a lot of human contact, often, by family members. Another socialized resident canine would be a bonus to continue her trust-building. Obedience training would be highly recommended to continue her breed mix, of having a job to do of sorts. Lizzie has had two sets of vaccines, and will also get, Lepto Bordetella and Lyme vaccines on June 14. She will also be microchipped. Lizzie will be available to leave for a new home any time after that. A fully fence yard or farm is mandatory to apply for our Lizzie. We thank Steven Taylor Photography for these beautiful studio shots. Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application. Available to Ontario Residents only!!!
