LIAM - Adopted

THIS IS LONG BUT PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY

THIS IS LIAM.....and a more exotic, gorgeous, sweeter dog....you will not find.  But this poor baby has not had a good time in his short 11 months of life....so it has to get better from here!  His previous owner bought him out of the Petfinder classifieds and was told he was an Old English Sheepdog mix....but at 27 lbs, although he is still growing, it is unlikely that this is his breed.  At first we thought Beardie mix....but he's not big enough for a Beardie, either!  A dog-savvy authority suggested that he may be a Polish Lowland Sheepdog....and while we can't confirm this...it's the closest we can get to his breed!  Whatever he is, he's cute as they come, with eyelashes that would make Bridgette Bardot envious.

Liam loves people, is fine with other dogs, eats anything, is healthy, seems housebroken, does fine in a crate and is no problem on a leash.  BUT.....and this is a big BUT......Liam is extremely insecure and unsure of his surroundings.  If you walk towards him, he will walk away....quickly and consistently......even if he knows you.  Our trainer suggested to tether him to us, giving treats regularly, to build up his trust level.  We are doing this and it seems to be working.  Once you get a hold of his leash, he is totally fine.  He will sit in your lap, kiss you, put his paw in your hand. He sleeps on the bed and is a total cuddlebug all night. But the minute you get up, he'll run ahead of you and act like you are some kind of menace he needs to run from!!  Bizarre.

Liam needs a calm, patient owner. He is young and another sweet, goofy dog would be a plus to draw him out of his shell.  Definitely needs a secure yard to play in. He's very submissive and would allow another dog to lead him, but an aggressive alpha would scare him. His former owner thought he was more comfortable with women than men....but we believe that when his general trust level improves, he will be fine with whomever.  Not a dog for kids, who would not understand.  It breaks our hearts to think what has caused this behavior in him.  So there you have it - the good, the bad and the Liam.

A patient family, willing to show Liam that the world isn't such a scarey place, will have a double reward -- a beautiful, gentle creature to be your constant companion -- and the reward of knowing that you repaired the damaged trust of an animal in need.

Come to the Irvine Super Adoption on Sunday, June 6, to meet Liam.  If he does not get adopted, he will be available after that date by appointment only.

Our website is updated daily. Please do not apply for this dog unless your home fits the specified criteria. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, groomed, vet checked, dewormed, deflea'd and come with a leash, collar and ID tag!

Most importantly, if you have a dog, make sure you bring him or her to do a compatibility match with the dog you are interested in adopting!!!
