My Story

8/17/2009-Leonard has been adopted!!!!!

Leonard is one of the most recent dogs to find himself homeless and alone in Jones County. We're unsure what led Leonard to homelessness but we will now do everything in our power to find him a forever home with a loving family!

Leonard is approx. 1-2 years old and weighs in at 110 lbs. Leonard is like a bull in a china shop-he is x-large but still thinks he is a tiny puppy:-) Like most St.'s, Leonard is just as sweet as can be and is such a happy, happy boy. Leonard requires a family that has the means and the room to take care of a large dog. Leonard will also need some guidance and patience in his new family, as he will need further leash training and some guidelines on doggy manners.

If you are interested in Leonard, please IMMEDIATELY contact Jen at [email protected] or 319-480-0945.

The first step to AWF's adoption process is to fill out an Adoption Application.
To download our adoption application, please click here. Completed applications can be sent as an attachment to [email protected] or faxed to 319-393-0056.

The adoption fee is on a sliding scale; $90 to $150. You decide the amount that is right for you to give. We have an all volunteer staff so your entire fee goes towards saving AWF's rescue animals. If your donation covers Leonard's medical costs, then the remainder of your donation will go towards helping save another homeless pet!

All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, tested for heartworm to ensure they are negative and are on flea and heartworm preventative.

No adoptions outside of an approx. 50-mile radius of Cedar Rapids. In some instances, we are able to make an adoption outside of the radius work (but this varies on a case by case basis and may depend on where you live). The limited radius is due to a mandatory home visit needing to be done at the adoptive home by a rescue volunteer.

Breed Disclosure: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we can not guarantee their breed. We list the pet’s breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.
