My Story

Meet Leo! Leo was brought in by a police officer who had been called to the scene to pick up a dog who had been left in the house when the people were evicted. He was found in a left in crate with his own feces without any food or water. We don't know how long Leo was left like that, but we are thankful he was found when he was and are hoping to find him a home that will never put him in a situation like that again! Despite that rough incident, Leo clearly is a sweet boy who is willing to shower the people he meets with love. He is a high energy boy who could still use some work on his manners, but we know with a family to teach him structure and help him burn his energy he will thrive. Leo seems interested in playing with other dogs, but can sometimes be too invasive for some dogs. Animal Friends is happy to set up a meet and greet to ensure Leo and any dogs in the home would enjoy each other's company. Leo got to spend a few nights in a foster home and loved having the break from the shelter. The family described him as "the cuddliest most affectionate dog ever," but unfortunately he was just too much energy for the senior, small dog in the home or they would have loved to keep him longer. Leo is struggling with stress at the shelter but thrives when he gets to be out and about with people. He was recently taken out for a dog date and the volunteer had nothing but great things to say about him: "He is pretty perfect and I can’t figure out why no one has snatched him up. He is great in the car and one of the easiest dogs to walk. No pulling at all. We went to the park and walked around, but he preferred to lay in the shade and have me pet him. I didn’t need to bathe today because he showered me with so many kisses. We saw some dogs and he wasn’t reactive at all. We also went to Petsmart and walked around. He had a few people approach him and he was so happy to greet them!" If you would like to make Leo's day and give him a break from the shelter please consider adopting, fostering, or even just taking him out for a doggie date! Leo is current on shots, licensed and microchipped. All dogs over 6 months have been heartworm tested, and all dogs are treated monthly for fleas/ticks and are on Heartworm prevention (NexGard PLUS). All pets are spayed/neutered prior to a finalized adoption. All our dogs receive a behavior assessment before being placed for adoption to determine initial behaviors towards people and other dogs in the shelter environment. If you have questions about an animal please have their name and ID number ready and contact shelter staff by: (1) visiting Animal Friends during our open hours, (2) calling 513-867-5727, or (3) emailing [email protected]. WE HAVE MORE PETS IN THE SHELTER THAT ARE NOT ON PETFINDER.
