My Story

As this month's Very Important Puppy, Leah's adoption fee has been reduced to just $25. However, if you're a senior yourself and are approved to adopt her, Leah's adoption fee is waived for the month of August!!

Tiny Leah spent the majority of her long life with one owner. Who knows what happens in the lives of these dogs, what the stories are that they can't tell us. Regardless though, Leah's story has taken a sad turn, and at 11 years old she was taken to a crowded animal shelter and left there.

For Leah, it has been a scary experience, she was often found huddled and shaking inside of her kennel. But get her out in the green, soft grass, and this little girl has a different story to tell! She enjoyed sniffing the grass, was happy to show off her fancy halter, and offered tiny, sweet kisses to those who stopped to reassure her. Leah is far from her final chapter, these small dogs easily live into their late teens. She still has a lot to offer as a companion to someone who can look past that grey face and see her potential.

She is a very nice girl and is friendly with kids, cats, and other dogs. She is housebroken and enjoys leisurly walks. Leah's tail is always wagging and she is happy to tell you if she thinks you are forgetting to spoil her properly! She is a darling dog and will be a delightful addition to a new home. Her adoption fee is $75.
If you are a senior yourself and have room in your heart and home for Leah, you may adopt her for only $25. (Please note that Leah may take a few days to adjust to her new home and that she will need an owner understanding of her emotions should she cry the first few days)

Update 7-4-10-
Recently, Leah attended an adoption drive where she charmed her way into everyone's heart who met her. here is what one volunteer had to say about Leah:

'I spent approximately 5 hours with Ms. Leah on Saturday, July 3, 2010, while she was part of an adoptathon for Black Dog Animal Rescue.  I would like to share my thoughts and observations.

First, I would tell anyone not to let her age fool them.  Leah is a delightful and spunky little gal who has a heart full of love and spirit to share with people.  She absolutely loves people and enjoys being held, walked, and petted.

Leah is always ready to go for a walk, and while her walking may not be in the “speed walking” category, she steps right along and has a great time.  She enjoys going on walks and looking around to see what is going outside.  She also likes to keep an eye on the person who is walking her – just in case they “fall behind” in their walking!   Leah is truly a joy on leash.

She is obviously house trained.  She was inside for over 5 hours, had no accidents, and was taken out 3 different times to potty.  Leah took advantage of every one of those opportunities.  Knowing, just by her size, that she has to have a teeny, tiny bladder, I was amazed by how long she was able wait to go outside.

Leah was a real trooper at the adoptathon.  She greeted everyone who stopped to see her with a beautiful smile, and great eye contact.  It could be said that Ms. Leah has never met a stranger!  She absolutely loved any attention, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a pet.  What a sweetheart.

Leah was on her feet all 5 hours of the adoptathon, and never once did her little tail stop wagging during those hours.  All the other dogs took several naps during this event, but not little Leah.  She was standing there waiting to meet the next person and share her beautiful smile and wagging tail with them.  Leah did lay down one time – for about 10 minutes near the end of the adoptathon, but her little head remained upright, her eyes showed no sign of being tired, and she was on the lookout for the next person who would come her way.

Leah is a happy girl who is looking for a new family to love and a new forever home.  She will not disappoint the lucky family who adopts her.  I am quite confident she will gladly share her sunny disposition and give every ounce of love she has to give to her forever people.

I highly recommend Leah for anyone who has lots of love they want to share with this little cutie.'
