My Story

Updated: May 9th: Well after a week on the run I am home safe and sound. I have no injures just a little on the skinny side. My rescue group went out looking for me and would not quit until I was found. My foster dad drove to Columbia everyday and would camp out in the woods for 13 hrs at a time in hopes to spot and catch me. As a last resort they set out a trap for me and low and behold they got me at 3:30am. Yeah for me as I was too scared to come to anyone. I would like to thank my foster family and other volunteers for not giving up as well as my new adoptive family. Also, thanks to Matthews Animal Control for loaning my rescue group a trap! 5-1-2004: I was adopted and went to my new home in Columbia, SC. On 5-2 I got out the front door and am on the run due to being scared and or not used to my new family. PLEASE FIND ME! I am a Boxer and of course we drool and just got finished with my Heartworm treatment so I drink a lot of water. Please do not think that the mention two items are a sign of rabies as they are not and if you so me please call me by the name of Roxie as I know that name better. PLEASE call 704-488-8928 if you see me or e-mail [email protected] ASAP. My rescue group is trying to locate me ASAP. Due to me being abused in my previous two homes I may shy away but I will not hurt anyway. Trust me. Also, my new owners had taken my collar off so I am running around naked. Please call or e-mail on any sightings. THANKS AND LET'S GET THIS WONDERFUL GIRL BACK TO US! Updated on 4-4-2004: I am getting adopted. Yeah for me! I will be going to my new home a week after I get my 2/3rd Heartworm Treatment. ***Updated on 3-27-2004: Thank you to all of you who have made donations towards my heartworm treatment. So far I have received enough to pay half of my bill. I had my 1st heartworm treatment on 3-25 and came through it with flying colors! Which is excellent due to the severity of my case. I have to be kept crated and leash walked for 30-days and then I will get my next 2 rounds of treatment. Then again I will have to be crated and leashed walked for another 30-days and hopefully those nasty things will be out of my system. Just to tell you how great I am: my foster family had to go out of town for a long weekend and I am staying at another CARE foster home instead of a doggie sitter watching out after me. I am doing great in this home as well and I love everybody as well. I am still a little afraid of new people due to the past abuse I had in my first 2 homes but they never hit or yell at me so in turn I come around. When I get scared I shy away but then I realize “hey I am safe here” and I go back to the humans and they just love on me and give me all kinds of love and kisses. It is great to be in such a caring group of rescuers where I actually come first! *** Hi! My name is Layla and I am a pure breed Boxer. My foster dad (actually he is a young man but Adam is a true man in my eyes) named me Layla after Mohammed Ali’s daughter who is also a female and a boxer. I am about 2 yrs old and I am very skinny at this time and I have had a hard life to this point but my foster family will make me well and are feeding me tons of food, which a dog needs. I was abused by my 1st home and then they gave me away to another family for free (never give animals away free or you know they will not put any money into their care since they put nothing out to take them in). The next family left me tied outside to a chain or let me run free and did not give me the required amount of food, water or medical needs a dog requires. I now have Heartworms, Whipworms and Hookworms. Lucky for me the family did not want to put any money into me to have me fixed so a CARE volunteer got them to turn me over to her and she got me into a CARE foster home. I have already been treated for the hooks and whips and have been spayed. I will be treated for the Heartworms in two weeks once I put some more weight on. I am a super great girl and my 1st wrong doings in my homes were not due to any error on my part. You can ask my foster family about that. I am great in the house, in my crate, with other dogs, with people of all ages and yes-even cats. I also share the room with my foster dad and he even allows me to share his bed with him and if he is sitting in a chair I like to share his lap with him as well. Please consider making a donation towards my heartworm treatment! Operation CARE is a not for profit rescue group and they rely solely on donations from kind soles such as your yourself! Donations can be sent to: Operation CARE PO Box 3206 Matthews, NC 28106 to the attention of me “Layla”. You can also contact [email protected] for an application to adopt me. Thanks!
