My Story

Female Terrier Mix 1 year old Coat Length: long House Trained: yes Health: Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered Good in a home with: dogs, children Meet little Lani – a playful and affectionate one-year old dog who is looking for a forever family she can shower with love! Fully grown but topping out at just a hair under 8lbs, she is what we call a “perma-puppy” as nearly everyone mistakes her for a baby at first glance! Her exact background is unknown, but we suspect that she is a Yorkshire terrier-chihuahua mix (a “chorkie”). Lani has gorgeous black silky fur that will grows long if left alone. Because of this, she requires regular brushing and occasional haircuts to help keep her looking her best (both of which she fortunately loves!) She’s fully housetrained and has had zero accidents in her foster home when taken out every four or five hours during the day. She is very smart and treat-oriented and is quickly picking up on commands like ‘sit’, ‘spin’ and ‘come’. Unlike many terriers, Lani is also fairly quiet. She will only occasionally bark a few times when surprised by someone or when she sees her own reflection in glass and other reflective surfaces. She has lived temporarily in a condo and handled elevators and urban life well. While Lani loves being around people and has lots of goofy playful energy, she is also happy to quietly curl up and nap in her crate for a few hours when her fosters leave the house or otherwise can’t have eyes on her. She currently goes overnight from about 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. without waking, but can likely be encouraged to sleep in later with a later bedtime. She is happy sleeping on a dog bed on the floor but also adores being with her fosters in their big bed. During the day when her foster parents are working, she’ll happily sit on her dog bed in their offices napping or playing with toys. Lani loves to walk. She is working on developing good leash skills and now rarely pulls on the leash. She can go for daily strolls of up to an hour (usually taking longer walks twice a day with a couple, shorter 10 minute jaunts in between). While she has had access to a fenced backyard, she prefers doing her business away from home. She is great in the car and likes exploring the sights and smells of new areas and trails. Lani also loves playing with toys, particularly stuffed animals. Prospective adopters should note that Lani has shown a desire to very occasionally chew/mouth on objects, but is easily redirected to toys or chew treats. From a limited number of interactions, it seems Lani is good with other dogs – showing lots of playful energy. Given her small size, she would likely be best with another small or medium-sized playmate in her new household to help keep her busy, but can also be a solo pet. She has a typical terrier prey drive (chasing after birds and squirrels on walks) and so she isn’t suited to a household with resident cats or other small animals. Finally, Lani has been fostered in a home with an eight-year old child and has proven herself to be very kid-friendly. She is exceptionally gentle and playful and will often choose the eight-year old’s lap to sit on and receive pets and belly rubs. Are you ready to add lovely little Miss Lani to your family?
