My Story

Hi my name is Koa which is Hawaiian for "protector" or "guardian". I was born approximately late January 2006. I am a male, Lab/ Boxer mix - light brown in color. I weigh approximately 40 - 45 lbs and I am full grown. I am neutered and I am currently on heartworm preventative. I play well with other dogs about my size and I get quite excited when I get the chance to play. I have not been around cats, so I don't really know how I would interact. I'm sure I'd be extremely curious and try to play. I would be fine around older kids but might be a little too rough with younger ones. I have had basic obedience training. I am house-trained and will try to tell you when I have to go outside. If you take me out in the morning, when you get home from work, and right before bed; I probably won't have any accidents either in the house or in my crate. I am crate trained and crate rather nicely, especially when coaxed with a treat. I walk well on a leash but get excited around other dogs. Otherwise, I walk right next to you while on a leash. I know how to sit, stay, and wait until given a command to approach my food and eat. If interested in adopting me, please email [email protected] General Personality and Energy Level: He's a very sweet, lovable dog who just loves to be around people. He follows me everywhere I go. Because he is only 2 years old, he does have a lot of energy (especially after being in a crate all day). He loves to go for walks or runs and also likes to lay at your feet while you watch tv or work on the computer. He'll chew all day on his nylabone or kong toy, but might also grab other items if left lying around the house. History: I found Koa through the Charlotte Animal Shelter. I adopted him thinking I would have much more time to play and give him the exercise and attention he requires at his young age. However, due to work hours and my distance running training, I'm not able to give him the time he needs. He's perfectly fine in his crate, but I hate that he has to spend such long hours cooped up. I took him to the vet in early December for an intial checkup and to get heartworm preventative, and the vet indicated that he seemed to be in perfect health. I've had no problems health-wise or with bathroom accidents. I'd just like to find a more suitable home that can give him more attention and love. WE FINALIZE EVERY ADOPTION WITH A HOME VISIT THEREFORE POTENTIAL HOMES MUST BE WITHIN A HOURS DRIVE TIME OF CHARLOTTE NC. A FOSTER PET WILL NOT BE SHIPPED TO SOMEONE LIVING OUTSIDE THE ADOPTION AREA NOR WILL ANYONE BE ALLOWED TO COME PICK A PET UP FROM US. YOU MUST BE 21 TO ADOPT FROM OUR GROUP.

Sincerely,
