Kiara is one of the newest additions to the Rawhide family. She is approximately 6 years old, and we think she is a pure-bred Bouvier des Flandres, however, she may also be a Labradoodle (they are very similar in appearance). Kiara was found sitting on a street corner in Manhattan, and taken to the NYC shelter. Although dirty and disheveled, her loving and gentle personality convinced the shelter staff that she was quite special. They originally thought she was a Standard Poodle/Portugese Water Dog mix, but when we brought her to our vet for a check-up they thought she was the spitting image of a Bouvier.

Kiara is 75 lbs, and has natural ears and a cropped tail. Our best guess as to her "story" is that she was used for breeding for many years, and kept caged (she has callouses on her elbows from consistently laying on a hard surface). She either escaped or was turned loose onto the streets of New York. This poor girl has chewed the tip of her little tail raw, most likely from boredom or stress, and needs some nutritious food to get her back to an ideal weight of about 80 lbs.

Despite her past living conditions, Kiara is an awesome and wonderful dog! She is friendly with the other dogs in her foster home, and only mildly interested in the cats. She loves to play tug of war and carry around the little stuffed toys that her foster family gives her. She knows how to "sit", and walks very well on a leash. She is housebroken, and she is given the run of the house while her foster family is at work during the day without any problems. Kiara is big, strong, and playful, so we think she would do well with an adult-only family or a family with older children. She seems to bond very quickly, and has already become her foster mom's "shadow" around the house. When her foster mom bends down and looks into her big eyes, Kiara gives her soft, gentle kisses of appreciation and happiness. She is up to date on all her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.

UPDATE: Kiara visited the doggy spa and had a complete makeover! The first two pictures are of Kiara "post-grooming", and the third picture is "pre-grooming". She had a bath, a haircut, and a nail clip. Now she smells as good as she looks!
