My Story

Kia, and best friend Chevy, were surrendered together. With a guesstimated birthday in Jan. 2020, Kia weighed 20 lb at her vet exam in Jan. 2024. Kia is a shy girl and hoping for a quiet family with calm confidence to help her learn new things / places are curious rather than scary. She is afraid of men so a patient man, who won't take it personally if it takes her a long time to be friends, is important. Kia is working on house-training, so will need to be on a regular schedule to help reinforce she only has to wait a little while for a potty break. She's leash savvy. Kia isn't a fan of cats - she says she's allergic :) She likes some dogs - polite, calm ones are preferred. -------------------------------------- Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we make our best guess as to birthdate and breed. For adult dogs, our adoption fee covers a standard canine vaccine, a rabies vaccine, and deworming if recommended by our vet. Adult dogs will also have current heartworm test. For puppies over the age of 14 weeks, our adoption fee covers the first 3 puppy vaccines. If the puppy is still in our care at 16 weeks, we will also provide the rabies vaccine. A vet reference is required only if you are adopting an intact dog over 6 months of age (or the age our attending veterinarian recommends for spay/neuter) to ensure future altering of the dog. A refundable spay/neuter deposit is required for intact dogs/puppies. Open Adoption Events for Foster Dogs are held on most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Open Adoption Events for Bunch Anderson Shelter Dogs are held every Saturday from noon-4:00 p.m. Please check our FB page for changes in Adoption Event Schedules. A scheduled Meet & Greet between Adoption Events may be possible by sending an e-mail to: [email protected]. We do not hold dogs. Fees are required in cash at Tractor Supply. We are an all-volunteer, foster-based no-kill shelter & rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. For more information on our organization, visit our website at FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
