Katrina
Adopted
Breed
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Flat-Coated Retriever
About 4 or 5 years old, Katrina was named after the hurricane from which she was rescued. The breed combination of this dog is hard to guess. She looks and behaves much like a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
Katrina would be happiest in a home that enjoys active involvement with their four-legged family members. She enjoys exercise and interaction, and is very willing to please.
Katrina's good looks, great temperament and nice size of approximately 45 pounds caused her to be adopted right away when she first arrived in Illinois in 2005. Very unfortunately, her first adopter passed away in September of this year. Illinois Humane welcomed Katrina back.
Katrina had two torn knee ligaments that have now been corrected with surgery, She has arthritis in the injured leg that will need continuing monitoring and appropriate pain management. The leg condition does not hamper her movement. This injury evidently occurred at the time of the hurricane and initially went undetected. The leg condition is another reason Katrina needs exercise in order to ensure proper weight management. Katrina was about 10 pounds over weight when she returned to Illinois Humane in September. Since that time, she has lost about five pounds .Illinois Humane will continue to work on weight management with Katrina until she reaches her ideal weight of 45 pounds..
Katrina is good with children. Katrina is microchipped, spayed and up-to-date on shots. Her first adoptive home had many cats and she did fine with those cats. She had altercations with small and young animals in her first foster home upon returning to Illinois Humane. With proper introduction and handling, she most likely will do well with other animals in an adoptive home.
