JoJo came to us because his elderly owner passed away and the family could not care for him. He has already been neutered and according to the longtime owner (they had him 8 years--he is 8 years old), he is good with children, likes cats and dogs, is housebroken, was kept inside, and is friendly and playful. According to the folks that we adopted him to recently, they stated that he did not do well with their small children. We would have to say that as long as you have children that know their bounds with this dog and do not try and push him, he will be alright. Still, he'd probably be best placed in a home with older children. He is an older dog so he really enjoys lounging around. He likes to chew on bones and is just an all around good dog. He does not like to be crated, he will beat his nose up trying to get loose.

Adopting a dog from the Conway Animal Welfare Unit is a fairly easy process. The first step to adopting an animal is submitting an application. The application allows us to individually consider applicants and helps us to properly match our pets with new owners. We want to make sure that our pets are going to homes that are ready to provide for these pets long-term. If you are a city of Conway resident, our adoption fee is $20. Your adoption will come with a voucher that will allow you to have the pet spayed or neutered (this is a REQUIREMENT of adoption). The voucher is worth $120, any costs associated with the surgery that exceeds this price is the new adopter's responsibility. As with any shelter animals, health is not guaranteed but we do our best to screen out those animals that are showing obvious signs of illness or disclose that information prior to adoption. All dogs are heartworm tested upon adoption.

If you are interested in adopting a dog and you reside OUTSIDE the city limits of Conway, the cost is $70 which includes a spay/neuter. The spay and neuter can only be performed at Vilonia Vet Clinic or Mayflower Vet Clinic. The other option is that you provide us with proof of a pre-paid spay or neuter at YOUR vet of choice. That is the only option for those who are out of state or out of area.
