My Story

Joel is a precious little guy who is 9 weeks old. Joel is a pure bred German Shepherd Dog puppy with a fuzzy Sable coat and ears that are both trying to stand up and cross at the same time.

This puppy was surrendered to an Animal Control Officer in a Northern GA county......That is a good thing as he was living in an abusive situation. Sadly though, this sweet little puppy was scheduled to die on the Monday morning after Thanksgiving....The county he was in only keeps animals for 5 days and then they are euthanized!

A shelter volunteer, sent CSR an email with a picture and then called me about this German Shepherd Dog puppy. I said, "Yes, I will take him." Then I went up and read the email and saw his little face full of fear as he seemed to shiver huddled next to the cold concrete wall.....I had been told that the puppy was being taken to a foster home until transport could be made to bring him to Atlanta where I would pick him up.
I was told he was a Sable colored. That is the coat color of my own precious GSD, Stella. Stella went with me to Atlanta and as we waited in the designated parking lot I was glad to have such a wonderful dog as my companion on this trip. When the Dark Green Van arrived with this special boy I was thrilled to see those little ears trying to stand up only to cross at the attempt. The gal who had taken him home from the shelter had given him his first DHLPP and I was very pleased. I had been told that the puppy was very thin and he certainly is.

Joel rode home with Stella lying close by his crate. I wonder if her gentle Alpha presence comforted him during our ride home?
When we got home Joel ate hungrily warm Royal Canin puppy food and snuggled in his new foster parents arms. My vanity area was once again transformed into a puppy den complete with a puppy size crate with the door off that held his red blanket from the larger crate in the car, some toys and a hand towel that smells like "Mom". Joel settled down for a nap in his crate with the warm blanket.

There was great excitement when the 5 adult GSDs came in to meet Joel through the safety of the gate at the vanity area door. Each adult went to the gate with tails held high. There was no sign of aggression from any of the adult dogs. Joel whined and licked the noses in submission that wanted to sniff him.

Please return for updates as Joel gains some much needed weight before he is adopted. I want to make sure Joel is a strong healthy boy when he is adopted.

Joel will only be adopted as a valued inside family member where the German Shepherd Dog is known and loved. It is already evident that Joel is a very intelligent member of his breed. Joel should be given the opportunity to achieve his potential through basic obedience classes and perhaps classes of a higher level. Joel is already Very attentive. He follows well and watches my face and within a few shot minutes he picked up the idea that I wanted him to sit when he came to me when I called him to "Come".....This is one bright little puppy!

Joel will only go "potty" outside or on the paper in my vanity area. What a good puppy!
