My Story

JJ is approximately 18 weeks old in these pictures taken April 5, 2008. He came into the shelter when his family lost the place they were living and then they had to move out of the hotel that they were living in too. JJ is very loving, playful, and sweet. He is working on being housebroken and walking on a leash. He will following anywhere you go and loves to sit on your lap. JJ enjoys playing with toys too.

UPDATE - April 5, 2008:
JJ's foster mom reports that he is now completely housebroken. He also plays fetch. Loves running and playing with her two children (ages 9 and 11). JJ is a well behaved little boy, who does not jump up on people. He does well on a leash and great riding in the car. JJ is learnign the 'sit' command.

UPDATE - April 20, 2008:
JJ's foster mom reports that JJ walks well on the leash. He knows the following commands sit, stay, down, stand, out/give, no, good boy. He is still leary when walking on the leash around parked or traveling cars. But is 200% better than
when I started him. He loves his treats, and will sit before he gets one, without jumping. JJ loves to play with anyone....fetch, tug-o-war, and even a good game of chase. He sits before he is allowed to come in the door. He does jump in excitement...I tell him 'no jump' and step forward into him and he gets down, and I do not acknowledge he is 'good boy' till he sits and is calm. He knows the words 'out' or 'give' to let go of the ball once he brings it back to you. 'Out' he also knows as he is not allowed in the kitchen when food is being prepared, and the carpet line is where he is allowed to watch from. JJ is a much more confident dog than the one that was brought to me. He is a good guard dog, and still only barks if there is something to bark at..(someone at the door, or coming in the door he that isn't expected. He does not like to be left alone, please make sure he has his toys, socks, rawhide bone. He doesnt like storms at all...he needs to be with hi people, and he will bark at it when it is close...please just reassure him everything is alright...never to yell at him because of this. He was lost in one of the worst storms we had this winter. JJ knows where everyone is at in his home, and he looks in on them. He may wake one time during the night, I usually let him out before I go to bed and that is good enough. He goes to bedo bed at 9 pm with the boys. He sleeps very well off lead at night now. I do not crate him at all during the night. JJ's job is to protect the family and he can't do that if he is crated, so I taught him quickly. As soon as he was fully potty-trained they are pretty much off-lead at night as well. During this time I trained him not to chew on things that do not belong to him. JJ is still a pup and will find something periodically to carry of yours out to where ever he want to lay down at. He does not chew on it, but will carry it softly, and have it near him. He is used to sleeping on blankets at night. During the day he takes turns sleeping where ever he can be close to you at, as well as trying to fit in Jake's dog bed (rat terrier).
