My Story

Jax- young adult male Black Labrador Retriever; Jax is only around a year old. He has been beautifully socialized, and is a true Lab in the way he loves people. He is also great with cats and with livestock. He bonds to a new person right away, and is very prone to stick to you like glue. He is very good on the leash, hardly pulling at all. He is rather submissive, which is nice in a Lab, as they tend to jump up and get rammy, but Jax just rolls over and shows his belly. Jax has been called "the luckiest dog in northwest Saskatchewan." He was found north of Lac Des Isles by a fellow checking his trap line. He was wandering in the forest, obviously lost. He came to us with a growth on his upper lip and breathing difficulties. After two weeks of observation and antibiotics, while speculating about infections, porcupine quills, or possibly a tumor, we finally decided to go ahead with the expense of an x-ray. This is how we discovered that Jax has been shot with a high-powered hunting rifle. He has many tiny pieces of a fragmenting bullet in his nasal area. Our veterinarian believes he will recover completely, although the pieces are too small and numerous to remove. All of the swelling is expected to go down and Jax should live a normal life with his built-in souvenirs of his horrible experience.
