My Story

Meet Jake: This is what Jake has to say: Hello Everyone, My name is Jake, I am almost 5 months old. I just got here in Maine and what a strange place, it is all white here, it was pretty green where I used to live, but it is fun and people laugh when I play in the white stuff and it sticks to my face.

I have 2 foster siblings, one that is great , he is bigger than me and likes to play with me, and the other looks funny and makes funny noises..it goes: meow..and her idea of fun is to smack my nose, I don't like that game so I ignore her.

My last foster Mom taught me that I can't use the indoor potty like the 2 legged creatures, so I have to go outside. I ask at the door, but you have to pay attention to me because I am still very young and can't hold it for very long time yet. When you gotta go, you gotta go!

I love to cuddle with "people" they scratch my ears and make me feel good. They also talk funny talk to me and like it when I wag my tail at them.

My foster Mom says this isn't going to be my permanent home and that I am looking for a forever home. They also say I am going to be too gawky (whatever that means) and big to be around small children and that my new family should be familiar with extra large breed dogs. I only weigh about 45pounds but they say I will at least double that weight.

I really hope you like me and want me to join your family forever! Love, Jake

THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EXTRA LARGE DOG: These dogs have specific nutritional needs in order to grow up properly. Please research the wolfhound breed. Even though he is a mix and will not be as large as a regular Wolfie, he is still going to be around 100 pounds and needs proper nutrition for his growth stages. Extra Large dogs have shorter lifespans than a smaller dog. 7-9 years is typical of an extra large breed. He is large, but still a puppy, therefore your expectations of him, must match his age, not his size.

PUPPIES:

HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
