My Story

Aug 2007

Is this not the CUTEST dog?? And what do you think of her new jacket? Very smart! Almost Home Rescue wants to say a special "Thank You" to two kind ladies from Baltimore, who were so taken with Jackie, that they outfitted her with this wonderful coat, harness and leash. Thank you kind ladies!

Jackie O, as her foster Mom calls her, is available for adoption! Jackie was adopted out earlier this summer, but turned out not to be a good fit for her new family.

Miss Jackie is about 6 years old and is quite overweight at nearly 20 lbs. Her foster Mom has put her on a diet and with some exercise she should slim down quickly. Jackie's foster home reports that she has had no accidents in the house. She is crate trained, but she shakes when put in one. We think she has spend WAY too much time in a crate, and are hoping to find her a home where her crated time will be minimal.

When first settling to a new home, Jackie may show some agression to other dogs...this is VERY temporary and once she feels comfortable she will be fine. Jackie gets along with the 3 large dogs in her foster home, and gets along with everyone at the dog park. A perfect home for Jackie would be one with someone home most of the time, as she loves her people and lots of stimulation. If bored, she may exhibit some inappropriate chewing behavior. She has NOT done this in her foster home, but was reported to do so in her old adoptive home. We are guessing that it was due to insufficiant exercise and lack of intereaction.

Jackie loves to ride in the car and sleep in your lap. She also appears to love kids and seeks them out at every chance. When I had her here she showered my little boy in kisses! Due to her small size, respectful children over the age of 5 might be a better fit for her.

May 2007 Jackie is a purebred smooth coated Jack Russell, She was purchased by some elderly people in Florida to save her from a puppy mill. She is 6 years old. The people due to health problems were no longer able to care for her.

She is affectionate and is a lap dog. She does very well in the house . Her foster mother has alot of dogs in her house so its hard to be 100 % sure but she feels she is house trained. She is good with other dogs and is submissive so sometimes she gets picked on by the other dogs. She has been vaccinated and spayed.

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Christine: [email protected] for this particular dog.
