My Story

Sponsors Needed - I will be available soon! Hi, I'm Hurley! I'm just a good ol' boy from Ohio who lived my ten years of life so far being someone's hunting buddy. I knew cars and trucks and ride very well in them. I knew a house and know all the house rules. But I guess my human didn't bother giving me heartworm pills because after years of running through those woods, I developed a cough and I started to slow down. When it was obvious I couldn't keep up with the hunt anymore, my human turned me in to the local pound. A kill pound. Guess he thought I was disposable- a throwaway. Well, BREW believes in recycling so they bailed me out of the pokey and took me to a vet who started to get me into shape. Unfortunately I tested positive for heartworm, so I had to undergo painful (and expensive!) heartworm treatments. BREW brought me to Chicago and my new foster home. My foster parents seemed nice enough but then they took me to a vet who put a needle THIS LONG into my back! Yikes! And the vet had to shave a patch on my back for the needle. So a month went by where I had to be kept quiet ( not too hard, I still wasn't feeling well). Then I went back to the vet and since he was a nice enough guy I was willing to give him a second chance when WHAM! another needle! Yikes again! And another patch. What am I, a checkerboard? And the next day my foster mom took me back and I knew what was up. Yep, another needle. Boy, those hurt. But they seemed to be working- the needles along with some pills I have been on have made me feel like a young punk again! I love to patrol my foster yard and sniff for chipmunks. I'll bay that beagle ARROOO when I smell one. Other times I just like to lie in the sun and take a sun bath. But I always like to be cuddled and sit on your lap. The vet says I am not ready to go to my forever home yet- when I am fully recovered from the heartworm treatment I need to have a dental treatment where I am told I will have most of my teeth removed. They have rotted too far and the roots are exposed ( and that hurts, too, but I don't let it stop me). I also need to have something called "neutering" done. Foster mom doesn't explain what that is. Are you looking for a great, mellow, laid-back old boy with lots of love to give who will fit right into your family? One who occasionally has a brief fit of zoomie/youngster craziness and then settles down? I might be your guy! And even if I am not, you could help me by sponsoring me. BREW is paying for all my medical treatments and they are expensive. But they worked! I am feeling great! Want to be my new best friend? Call BREW! Thanks and see you soon!
