My Story

Humphrey has a long story to tell, its one of sadness, fame, heartbreak, strength, courage, and hopefully it ends with nothing but love. One fateful day Humphrey shows up on a porch with a super heavy chain around his neck and cautiously invites himself inside, the video of which went semi-viral on Instagram. He is fostered by the home owners and begins to trust them and all people- but horrifically is shot in the face by their neighbor while standing on the sidewalk one day. Traumatized and with a fresh jaw fracture repair surgery he is urgently moved to another foster home for his own protection. In his new foster home he is treated with medical care, patience, time, and most importantly love. Flash forward to today- his physical wounds have healed but he still is healing his emotional scars. Humphrey loves ALL dogs - but is nervous of ALL humans at first. Makes sense, right? Humphrey is now scared of the dark, has a phobia of loud sudden noises and frequently stalls out on the leash. BUT he is potty trained, sweet and attentive once you gain his trust. Humphrey is a great versatile player, and can live with small and big dogs of all temperaments. He likes to be chased and loves to play with dog puzzles. Do you and your dogs want to meet this big squishmallow? Are you willing to be patient and keep working with Humphrey to feel safer in the world while celebrating all of the wonderful traits he already has? If so please consider opening your heart and home to this traumatized boy, we are confident you will learn so much about life and love from the relationship you will build with him. When we work to undo the pain our species inflict on animals, we need to first address OUR expectations. What is fair to expect of traumatized animals? Instead of having high expectations of the dog- is it better to open our hearts and expect to have to learn and grow along with the dog? Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home.
