My Story
Meet Huckleberry, a resilient American Staffordshire mix estimated to be around 2 years old and currently weighing about 40 lbs. Huckleberry was found in a dire state, emaciated and barely able to walk, with a man’s belt around his neck and covered in fleas. After some gentle coaxing, he offered his first tail wag, and it hasn’t stopped wagging since.
From forgotten to found, Huckleberry has quickly adapted and transformed to his new life in his loving foster home. Now updated on all his vaccines, he is scheduled for his neuter procedure soon. Despite his rough beginnings, he is incredibly friendly, loves other dogs, and adores all people, although probably will do best in a home with no cats.
Huckleberry matches any energy level you bring. Whether it’s a cozy day binge-watching Netflix, meeting friends at a brewery, or taking a long walk on the levee, he’s ready for it. He’s crate trained and working on his leash skills, but very food motivated making him a quick learner.
Though he still needs to gain some weight to achieve his ideal "velvet house hippo" status, Huckleberry is well on his way and ready to be a loyal sidekick to a lucky person. If you’re seeking a devoted and adaptable companion, Huckleberry is your perfect match!

**Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).
The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information.
