My Story

Well, hello there! My name is Howard, but I go by "Howie" or "How How" by my friends at the shelter. I am a medium-sized, 42-pound, lab mix. I was found in Stephen's State Forest with my pack trying our best to survive. The people at AHeinz57 caught me and brought me to the shelter. It was so scary coming to the shelter, at first, but I have learned so much since coming here. I now know that people are there to help me and love me. It took time, but I enjoy getting petted and brushed. I never knew how good an ear scratch was until I got one for the first time and it was the best feeling. The volunteers have been so excited at my progress and watching me learn to love them as well. I take treats so nicely from them and do a great job not making any messes in my kennel. When I have gone on walks outside of the shelter, I am brave and like to investigate. I love to play with my pack buddies outside, but I have learned to play with other dogs, as long as I have proper introductions with them. I have only known the forest and shelter life, so sharing an inside space with another dog may be difficult at first, but I would love to have some guidance. Since quick movements and loud noises can make me nervous, children living in the home or visiting frequently would not be the best fit for me. Because of my background, I will need a fenced yard, so apartments will not be the best fit. Since new things can still be scary to me, a fence will help keep me safe and feel protected. Most of my other forest friends have been adopted and have done wonderful in these types of homes, and I dream that one day I will get my chance too. My best buddy says I am a teddy bear and shows me so much, love. I think of having a home where I can enjoy the good life and just sit and contemplate the world with people that I love. If you are willing to come and take a chance on me, as other adopters have done with dogs from my pack, I promise I will be worth the time and patience! It might take more than one meeting for me to trust you, but I promise you that once I let you into my heart, I will never let you go a day without knowing how much I love and appreciate you. Until then, I will wait for you to come to meet me. If you would like to make me a part of your family forever, please fill out an adoption application. Love, Howard Some information may change overtime, as we get to know them better.
