Horatio - 'Racy'-

Horatio came into rescue suffering from severe sarcoptic mange and malnutrition (PICTURE 1). Through the generosity and love of MANY people, Horatio was able to receive the vet care and help he desperately needed to survive. Hortaio continues to need ongoing vet care to monitor his medical conditions - but look how BEAUTIFUL this boy has become!!! (Pictures 2 and 3). When you look into this sweet boy's big, brown, pound puppy eyes, it is easy to fall in love with him and want to make up for all the wrongs in is life. Unfortunately, the lack of care and training that Horatio went his whole life without receiving has left him with behaviors and needs that must be considered if you would like to make this sweetheart your life long companion. "Racy" as his foster family has come to call him, has a thyroid condition that will require medication and blood tests for the rest of his life. He also is prone to benign growths which will need to be monitored and possibly at times removed. The financial expenses of his future vet care should be carefully considered. Horatio is wonderful with other dogs, but he is possessive of food. Horatio lived for so long just trying to survive, he is very protective over resources. This does not extend to toys though. Due to the fact that he never lived in a house, and the fact that he thinks he has to always be in search of food he counter surfs, jumps on tables and tips over garbage cans looking for any scraps he can find. He does not associate searching for food with hunger because he does this habitually now, even with a full stomach. Horatio would not do well in a home with young children or in a home with anyone "frail". He is so excited to receive love and attention he jumps on everyone he meets with gusto! We are looking for the most special of homes where Horatio's rehabilitation will be continued. Only experienced dog owners will be considered for Horatio due his special behavioral and emotional needs. A fenced in yard to keep him safe will also be required. Horatio is a wonderful, kind dog, that has suffered from neglect and abuse. If you can provide him with the love and care he needs, you will be rewarded with love and devotion that goes beyond words.
