My Story

Honey's success story has been a long and winding journey- from being a feral dog running wild in Mississippi to being cared for by a loving young woman who learned she was heartworm positive and undertook a frantic search to find a rescue that would receive and treat her (Pet the Pet Program said yes) to a wonderful foster who agreed to take on the long difficult path to restored health and now this incredible dog has received the "all clear" from her veterinarian and we are offering her for adoption. Her foster mom has provided us with the following information regarding Honey, her personality, and what she will require in her new home: Honey is a sweet, loving, playful, and loyal girl, approx 52 lbs, who is pretty laid back, crate trained, housetrained, and nicely leash trained. She is dog friendly and is playful with both dogs and humans. She will need a home where there is another dog for company - she is calm when there is another dog present but has separation issues when left alone. Honey has strong prey drive and therefore needs to be in a cat free household. She is extremely athletic and able to clear a four foot fence without difficulty so she will need an enclosure that is escape proof when out of doors. She would make a super sport dog with her athleticism. Honey's temperament despite her rough early months is one of kindness and love. She endured her painful heartworm treatments without reacting aggressively with anyone working with her. She is still a bit reserved with new people but never unpleasant. Honey's adoption fee is $400.00 and includes her spay, vaccinations, and wormings. Our adoption procedure for an approved application requires a telephone interview, meet/greet, home visit and vet reference, We limit our adoptions to a 50 mile radius of Ithaca, NY. For an online adoption application, please email Pet the Pet Program at [email protected]. If you contact us and have not received a response within 24 hours, please check your spam. NYSRescue049
