My Story

Honey is ready for a foster-to-adopt home! Honey, a nearly 1 year old American Pittie mix, is as sweet as her name suggests! Last month, Honey was dumped in a crate outside our doors in the middle of the night. In our last update we were waiting for Honey’s test results for possible medical concerns. Now, we are in need of someone willing to be Honey’s hero as she may be a possible special needs dog. We are looking for a “Foster-to-Adopt” situation — where Honey is initially fostered through our shelter as we continue to work through a medical diagnosis, and adopted when her diagnosis is finalized. We are feeling so defeated for this gal, we know how hard it is to get any bully breed adopted, let alone one with possible special needs. Please read this little peanut’s post, interact, and share. Honey is playful and incredibly treat-motivated, though her puppy energy shows she hasn't had much time put into her by her previous family before she was abandoned. With us, she's learning basic obedience like sitting and improving her leash skills, gaining confidence every day. Honey’s trust in people and self-confidence has come so far from when she first arrived - scared and unsure. While she can be such a dopey goofball, Honey is smart and adapting well. We believe Honey could thrive with dogs, cats, and older kids. We’re cautious with small children because this little, uncoordinated ball of love may knock smaller children over! Since she arrived, Honey has always urinated frequently. Her pee is extremely dilute compared to what it should be. Honey has had bloodwork, urine cultures, and a water deprivation test - with nothing of serious note. We’ve been advised by multiple vets that this may be behavioral rather than medical - where Honey is simply drinking excess amounts of water. It has been suggested that the stress and anxiety of living in a kennel may be causing this issue. Honey’s increased water intake may change for the better once she’s placed into a home. Reducing her stress, anxiety and putting her on a normal schedule is the only way we can get an answer as to whether her water intake is behavioral and becomes more normal over time. We are currently limiting Honey’s water consumption hoping that will help her frequent need to pee. We are going to try our hardest to make sure Honey has the chance to be happy and healthy!
